How to reach Sakurajima and find all its new Pals in Palworld

Sakurajima is one of Palworld’s major late-game regions, adding an island filled with cherry blossom forests, rocky coastlines, new resources and powerful Pals. This place is as close as you are going to get to a Japan-type setting in Palworld, so it is well worth a visit.

Originally introduced in the free Sakurajima update, the island is controlled by a faction known as the Moonflowers. It also contains the Moonflower Tower, where players can challenge faction leader Saya and her Pal, Selyne.

Unlike some later areas, Sakurajima does not need to be unlocked through a quest or story mission. You can travel there as soon as you have a suitable mount, although its high-level inhabitants make arriving too early extremely dangerous, and you could argue, very silly.

Sp, here’s how to reach Sakurajima, what level you should be before exploring it and which new Pals were introduced alongside the island.

Where is Sakurajima in Palworld?

Sakurajima is found in the northwestern portion of the Palpagos Islands. It sits north of Mount Obsidian and west of the Astral Mountains.

Players who have already uncovered the Ice Wind Island fast-travel point can use it as a convenient starting position. From there, travel west across the water until the coast of Sakurajima becomes visible.

The island is considerably larger than many of Palworld’s smaller offshore regions, so it should be easy to spot once you approach the correct part of the map.

How to access Sakurajima

There is no mission, key or boss requirement for reaching Sakurajima. The island is part of the main open world and can be visited simply by travelling to it.

The safest way to reach Sakurajima is with a flying Pal. A capable swimming mount can also make the crossing, but flying allows you to avoid hostile creatures in the water and choose a safer landing point.

Suitable mounts include:

  • Ragnahawk
  • Faleris
  • Beakon
  • Shadowbeak
  • Frostallion
  • Jetragon

You do not need one of these specific Pals, but your mount should have enough stamina to cross a substantial stretch of open water.

Once you land, activate one of Sakurajima’s Great Eagle Statues as quickly as possible. This gives you a permanent fast-travel point and prevents you from having to repeat the entire journey after returning to your base.

What level should you be for Sakurajima?

Most wild Pals and enemies on Sakurajima are approximately Level 40 or higher, while its Alpha Pals and Moonflower Tower encounter reach the mid-50s. Menasting Terra appears as a Level 54 Alpha, while Knocklem is encountered at Level 55.

Players should ideally be at least Level 40 before exploring the island properly. Reaching Sakurajima at a lower level is possible, but even its ordinary wild Pals can quickly overwhelm an under-equipped party.

Before travelling, bring:

  • High-tier Pal Spheres
  • Cold- and heat-resistant armour where appropriate
  • A strong flying mount
  • Powerful firearms and plenty of ammunition
  • Healing items
  • Dragon Pals for fighting Dark-type enemies

Sakurajima contains several different environments, including cherry blossom woodland, rocky mushroom-covered areas, beaches and a colder northern section. Carrying armour that can deal with changing temperatures is therefore helpful.

All new Pals introduced in the Sakurajima update

The Sakurajima update introduced 24 new Pals, including entirely new species and elemental variants of existing creatures. Pocketpair also added new Pal skills, passive abilities and breeding combinations as part of the same update.

Not every Pal added in the update appears naturally on Sakurajima. Some are obtained through meteorite events, raids, breeding or encounters elsewhere in the world.

Which Pals can be found on Sakurajima?

Many of the update’s most useful additions appear naturally around the island.

Cherry blossom areas

The central and southern cherry blossom regions are good places to search for Pals such as Yakumo, Dogen, Lullu and Bushi Noct.

Yakumo is particularly useful for players interested in breeding and passive skills. Its Partner Skill can improve the chance that newly captured Pals share one of Yakumo’s passive abilities.

Dogen, meanwhile, can return the player to the nearest base through its Partner Skill, making it a useful emergency travel companion.

Mushroom wetlands

The darker mushroom-covered sections of Sakurajima are home to Shroomer and Shroomer Noct.

Both are useful base Pals because their Partner Skills can reduce the rate at which other workers lose Sanity. This can help maintain productivity in larger bases where Pals are assigned to lengthy production jobs.

Beaches and rocky areas

Kikit and Dazemu can be found around sandy and rocky parts of the island.

Kikit can increase the amount of Crude Oil the player carries, while Dazemu is a ridable ground mount that moves particularly quickly across sand. Crude Oil was introduced in the same update and is used to produce Plasteel for advanced equipment.

Northern Sakurajima

The colder northern section contains some of Sakurajima’s toughest wild creatures and is also close to the Moonflower Tower.

Make sure you have suitable cold protection before spending much time there, particularly at night.

Where to find Sakurajima’s Alpha Pals

Sakurajima contains two major Alpha Pal encounters.

Menasting Terra

Menasting Terra is a Ground-type variant of Menasting encountered at Level 54. Ground attacks are strong against Electric Pals but weak against Grass, so bringing a powerful Grass-type Pal can make the fight easier.

Its work suitability includes Mining and Lumbering, making it useful for resource-focused bases after capture.

Knocklem

Knocklem is a Level 55 Ground-type Alpha Pal. Its Partner Skill temporarily increases its Attack and Defence, turning it into an extremely powerful combat Pal when activated.

Grass attacks are the best option for exploiting Knocklem’s elemental weakness. Bring high-quality spheres, as its level and Alpha status can make it difficult to capture even at low health.

How to find Selyne

Selyne is closely associated with Sakurajima, but the standard version is not simply wandering around the island as an ordinary spawn.

Players encounter Selyne alongside Saya inside the Moonflower Tower, located on Sakurajima at approximately coordinates -597, 205. The standard tower encounter is Level 55, placing it among the tougher fights from the game’s original post-launch updates.

Wild Selyne can instead appear through meteorite events. These random events were added alongside Sakurajima and can bring unusual extraterrestrial Pals into the world.

Because Selyne is a Dark and Neutral-type Pal, Dragon attacks are the most effective option against it.

How to get Xenovader and Xenogard

Xenovader and Xenogard are also connected to meteorite events rather than standard Sakurajima spawns.

When a meteorite lands, a marker appears indicating the crash location. Travel to the marked area quickly and defeat any hostile enemies surrounding it.

Different areas can produce different extraterrestrial Pals. Xenovader is a Dark-type creature suited to combat and mining, while Xenogard is a much larger Dragon-type Pal with a Partner Skill that improves the amount of Meteorite Fragment and Pure Quartz obtained while it is in the active party.

Meteorite events occur periodically, so obtaining both may require several crashes.

How to get Blazamut Ryu

blazamut_ryu+boss

Blazamut Ryu is not found roaming Sakurajima. It is a powerful raid boss introduced with the update and must be summoned at a Summoning Altar using the appropriate Slab.

Pocketpair described Blazamut Ryu as the strongest Dragon Pal available when the Sakurajima update launched.

The fight is intended for high-level players with a well-developed base and a large selection of strong combat Pals. Raid bosses cannot be captured directly during battle, but defeating Blazamut Ryu rewards an egg that can be incubated.

The Moonflower Tower and Saya

Sakurajima is controlled by the Moonflowers, a faction led by Saya. Their tower is situated towards the northern part of the island.

Saya fights alongside Selyne in a Level 55 boss encounter. The battle has a time limit, so surviving is not enough; you must deal enough damage to defeat the pair before the timer expires.

Dragon Pals are recommended because Selyne’s Dark element is weak to Dragon attacks. Strong options include Jetragon, Jormuntide, Orserk and Astegon.

Bring a Rocket Launcher or another high-damage firearm and keep moving to avoid Selyne’s large area-of-effect attacks.

What else was added with Sakurajima?

The Sakurajima update extended far beyond the new island and its Pals.

It introduced the Oil Rig stronghold, Crude Oil and Plasteel, a multiplayer PvP arena, meteorite events, new weapons, additional base facilities, Pal cosmetics and hard versions of the existing tower bosses. The player level cap was also raised to 55 at the time.

Some of those limits have since been increased by later updates, but Sakurajima remains an important progression region because of its Pals, Alpha encounters, tower boss and access to Crude Oil deposits.

Is Sakurajima worth visiting?

Sakurajima is worth visiting as soon as your character and party can comfortably deal with enemies above Level 40.

Its new Pals provide useful Partner Skills for breeding, base management, travel and combat, while the island’s Alpha encounters offer powerful additions to an endgame team. It is also one of the best places to begin collecting Crude Oil for advanced crafting.

There is no formal requirement preventing you from reaching Sakurajima early, but waiting until you have strong equipment, high-tier spheres and a reliable flying mount will make exploring the island considerably less punishing.
