Jacob has been gaming since the original Game Boy was placed in his hands. Due to his passion for the field, writing talent, and a keen eye for SEO, he made his games journalism debut in 2019. When he isn’t playing the latest titles, he is tinkering with retro tech to bring it into the modern era.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a huge upgrade over the original, with not just improvements to the graphics but also additional content that simply didn’t exist before.
If you’re wanting to get into some pirate escapades, it’s an absolute no-brainer purchase, but despite which edition you pick up, there is no early access period you can take advantage of.
However, there is still one potential way to play before the game unlocks in your own region: the classic New Zealand trick.
Does the New Zealand trick work for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced?
The short answer is yes, the New Zealand trick should work for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, but as usual, mostly on Xbox. This will allow you to get plundering at 5 AM PT (8 AM ET) on July 8.
For those unfamiliar, the New Zealand trick is where you can change your console’s region to New Zealand, allowing you to access games once they unlock there. Since New Zealand is one of the first major regions to hit launch day, most of the time, this lets you start playing several hours before the game becomes available in the UK, US, or other territories.
On Xbox, this is usually the easiest platform to try it on, as changing your console region is relatively straightforward. So, if you have bought Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced digitally on Xbox, this will likely be the main way to get aboard the Jackdaw early.
PlayStation, however, is a little more awkward. You technically can play early using the New Zealand method on PS5, but you’ll generally need a New Zealand-specific PlayStation account and a copy of the game tied to that region. Changing your console settings is not enough in the same way it is on Xbox, making it far less convenient for most of you out there.
Unfortunately, you PC players appear to be out of luck. Whether you are playing through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, or another PC storefront, the New Zealand trick does not really apply in the same way, so you’ll need to wait for the game to unlock properly in your region.
This is worth knowing because Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has no paid early access option. The multiple editions offer different extras and bonuses, but none of them include a head start.
