The Virginia sports betting revenue report issued for June 2025 – has seen the sector celebrating a double-digit growth for the month – based on the same period in 2024.

With June player spending in Virginia at the leading betting sites $477.8m, this figure was a 15% hike of the same period in June 2024.

However, despite the year-on-year increase, the revenue report was still 19.7% down on the $595m they recorded in May this year.

A massive $472.8m of this June revenue return came from online betting – with retail sportsbooks chipping in with the other $51.1m.

Players won back $417.1m, with another $3.7m of undisclosed deductions – which then amounted to $57.1m for the adjusted gross revenue. This was up 41% year-on-year from June 2024, but still 15.8% less than May.

Virginia online betting for June 2025 made $57.4m in total revenue – but the overall number was less based on a $327,616 loss from the retail sector.

All this resulted in Virginia ending with a monthly hold of 11.95%.

These figures also came hot on the heels of New York sportsbooks issuing $155.9m July revenue figures – suggesting many US regions are seeing plenty of growth in the industry.

Virginia Betting Tax Surpasses $8.7m, With Over $200k Going To Problem Gambling Treatment

When looking at the Virginia sports betting tax generated – this came in at just over $8.7m – which was more than the $6.2m they took in June 2024.

Of this, $8.5m headed to the General Fund Allocation – with the other $216,860 going to Support Fund Allocation and Problem Gambling Treatment.

Virginia has 14 licensed online operators active in the state – with three retail sportsbooks that are based in their land-based casinos.
