Mistbound revealed as a Guild Wars card game after trademarks and teasers over the last few months

The Mistbound trademark that we flagged back in late April has finally been revealed.

That reveal is in fact a collectible card game of the Guild Wars IP, Mistbound, which is being developed by NCSoft, officially licensed by ArenaNet, and globally published by Bilibili.

Mistbound includes dynamic movement gameplay system

The game’s key feature is its Dynamic Movement Gameplay system, which sees players deploy cards as units and commanders onto a dynamic 5×3 tactical grid. Players can reposition them turn-by-turn in response to enemy movements. The system introduces mechanics such as knockbacks, pulls, flanking opportunities and shifting offense and defense positioning

Iconic Guild Wars characters will appear as commanders, each bringing unique abilities, traits and tactical identity. The official website already lists Marshal Trahearne, Countess Anise and Knut Whitebear from Guild Wars 2, as well as Nika, a Hero from Guild Wars Factions. There’s also what appears to be jobs-related cards in the game, hinting at the likes of Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer and Necromancer as something you’ll encounter in decks, along with other GW2 classes, and other GW adjacent themes.

The team also includes a notable name from the competitive card game world. Baek Hakjun, better known as “Kranich,” a former professional Hearthstone player and World Championship competitor, is serving as game designer on Mistbound, per the dev interview that was published on YouTube too.

No mistbound release date yet, but hype building

There is no release date for Mistbound as yet. Though, there is a pre-registration tease on the game’s website.  There’s also a snippet of a few of the neutral cards players can use to build decks based on movement, dealing damage, and enhancing other cards and commanders.

When we spotted the Mistbound trademarks registered on the USPTO and EUIPO systems on April 27th and April 29th respectively, we noted that ArenaNet trademarks are often registered under NCSoft or NC Corporation.  So, to see it finally live, after the Guild Wars 3 hype is incredibly nice to know.

There’s a fair amount of hype around the IP at the moment, thanks to the Guild Wars 3 announcement, and following blog posts recently published.
