That global simultaneous launch is worth flagging because it is different to how Riot normally handles updates. Patch 26.15 itself will roll out region by region as usual, but League Classic will not go live with the patch in each region. Instead, everyone gets access at the same moment.
If you’re looking to play, there’s no new setup required. League Classic ships inside the League client you already have, accessible through the mode picker once it goes live. Riot recommends verifying your account credentials at Riot games fairly recently updated accounts site ahead of launch. Especially if you are a long-term returning player whose account may have been inactive for a while.
League Classic runs on a fully separate progression track. Nothing in the Classic mode affects your live-game rank, Blue Essence balance or champion unlock status. You’ll get an older version of champions, a different map, rune pages and some other features across a rewards track. There are also classic skins applicable to most champions as a baseline, among other things.
Riot’s dev team also noted that there will be no publicly available API for the Classic mode. That’s to preserve the less data-driven analytics approach the team wants for the mode, away from the modern tracking sites we rely on for live League. Instead, if a LoL Classic champion something is broken, it’s down to word of mouth, testing and the kind of classical meta-defining tactics we used to rely on back in the day. How authentic indeed.
