Screen Australia Funding Boosts Local Games Industry by More than $1.4 Million

Screen Australia has earned a deservedly bright reputation among Australia’s local games industry, with each round of investments seeming bigger and better than the last. The organization has placed a particular focus on uplifting developers, with no small amount of Screen Australia funding directed towards local events as well.

What is Screen Australia?

For the uninitiated, Screen Australia is an arm of the Australian Federal Government. The organization was founded in 2008, and serves as one of the foremost sources of funding for local media production. Screen Australia was preceded by organizations like the Australia Film Commission, and the general focus on film and TV remains the same. However, recent years have seen Screen Australia express increasing commitment to the expansion of Australia’s own games industry.

Many developers have received significant boosts to small projects thanks in part to Screen Australia’s efforts, and the latest round of investments seems largely in keeping with this established track record. These funding programs seem intent on not only boosting developers within their local scene, but on expanding their reach globally as well. If this latest round of funding is anything to go off of, they may very well hit their target sooner than later.

Every Indie Game Boosted By Screen Australia’s 2025 Funding

Screen Australia certainly values diversity in its portfolio, with the newly-announced funding contributing to twenty-six games in total. During Screen Australia’s own press release, Head of Games Joey Egger specifically touted the “depth of talent” and “distinctiveness” of the projects being backed.
