Sports Interactive will make Football Manager 27 free to play on PC for five days, from 29 October to 3 November, ahead of its full 10 November release.
The studio announced the “Launch Preview” on 21 October, confirming the free window runs across Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. The full game is playable throughout, and Sports Interactive says in a post on X that wishlisting now readies players for the free period.
All modes, no limits
The free period is not a trimmed demo. The official FM27 FAQ states that “all modes, features, and areas of FM27 are available in the free play period and there is no limit to the time or progress you can log.”
Save data from the free window transfers in full to the paid release, so a manager who starts a career on 29 October can keep it after 10 November. That makes the preview a five-day head start rather than a throwaway trial.
Why Sega is opening the doors
The gesture lands after a rocky year for the series. Football Manager 26 launched on 4 November 2025 after FM25 was skipped during a longer-than-usual development cycle and a transition to the Unity engine, a combination that left the release glitchy and missing long-standing features. FM26 sits at 68 from critics on Metacritic but just 3.0 from users, reportedly the lowest-rated entry in the series there, and its Steam reviews landed as “Mostly Negative”.
Sports Interactive frames the free preview as support for its community, and says making an annual title free to play with all game modes available “is believed to be an industry first”.
What the five days cover
FM27 builds on last year’s match engine with new tactical layers, Tactical Tweaks and Tactical Effectiveness, plus dynamic pre-match cutscenes, upgraded crowds, weather and lighting, and a full-screen interface Sports Interactive describes as smarter to navigate.
Steam lists Football Manager 27 for Windows and Mac, developed by Sports Interactive and published by Sega. An FM27 price is not yet listed; FM26 launched at US$59.99. The free period closes on 3 November, one week before the full release on 10 November.
