Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new livestream on Wednesday. Here's what we know.

A Wednesday livestream from the Cyberpunk 2077 team may reveal more about game’s ‘next gen’ upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The showcase was announced via Twitter, with only vague details given – but with the planned Q1 2022 release window soon closing, it makes sense that we’d hear more now.

So far, there’s been relative silence from CD Projekt Red as it works on next gen upgrades for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, but if this announcement is anything to go by, the company may finally be ready to show off more of the polished game.

The livestream will take place on Wednesday, 16 February at 2:00 am AEDT, via CD Projekt Red’s Twitch.

Comments on a Reddit thread indicated the upgrade news had actually been confirmed on Chinese social media platform Bilibili, but linked posts have since been taken down.

Clearer confirmation was spotted by The Verge’s Tom Warren, who posted a screenshot of Cyberpunk 2077‘s Xbox store listing, which detailed optimisation for Xbox Series X/S.

In response to this finding, the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account posted a gif of The Office‘s John Krasinski awkwardly hiding, indicating this is exactly what the upcoming stream will focus on.

Given the optimisation notice appears to be live already, the next gen versions of the game could be up for a surprise drop on Wednesday – great news for players who wanted to wait until the game was more stable to dive in.

Over the last year, CD Projekt Red has been working hard to get Cyberpunk 2077 up to an expected standard, following major disappointment over the quality of the game at launch. Frequent bugs, game crashes, texture issues and glitches meant that some players found the game near-unplayable – with many demanding refunds from console and PC stores.

The furore meant the game was removed from the PlayStation Store for a solid six months – although later patches finally restored the title to a playable state. It didn’t convince every fan to put their faith back in the game, but patches on all platforms did bump up the player rating on Steam.

There’s hope the next gen upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 will finally help realise the game’s true potential as a slick, well-told and dynamic RPG. While the game’s redemption has been slow to arrive, Wednesday’s livestream should give a clearer picture of how the game is currently advancing. We may get a date for those shiny next gen versions, or we could be in for some major surprises.
