Halo: Campaign Evolved drops PvP, but does it still have co-op or split-screen multiplayer?

Halo games are synonymous with multiplayer, whether that be online as you go head-to-head with other Spartans around the world, or teaming up via co-op against the Covenant in hopes of saving humanity.

With Halo: Campaign Evolved, though, as the name suggests, online PvP has been dropped from the experience as it focuses solely on the story of the first game.

But, is there still online co-op and split-screen available, or has that been canned too?

Does Halo: Campaign Evolved have co-op and split screen?

Halo: Campaign Evolved supports up to four-player online co-op across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Better yet, online co-op includes crossplay and shared progression, meaning you won’t all need to be on the same platform to blast through the Covenant together.

That is a pretty big deal, especially with Halo making its PlayStation debut. Xbox, PC, and PS5 players will all be able to squad up, which should make assembling a full fireteam much easier.

Split-screen is also included, but only on console. Halo: Campaign Evolved supports two-player local split-screen on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, letting two players complete the campaign together on the same system.

Sadly, PC players won’t get split-screen support, so if you’re on Steam and hoping to recreate the old-school sofa setup, you’ll need to do it online instead.

Does Halo: Campaign Evolved split-screen require PS Plus?

There was some controversy after early wording suggested that PS5 players would need PlayStation Plus for both accounts to use local split-screen. Unsurprisingly, that did not go down well with anyone.

However, that requirement has since been debunked, with Halo Studios clarifying that PlayStation Plus is not required for local split-screen co-op on PS5.

There are still some account requirements, though. On PS5, both players need PlayStation Network accounts, and player 2’s PSN account must be linked to a Microsoft account before joining split-screen.

For online co-op, standard platform subscription rules still apply, so PS Plus will be needed for online play on PS5.

Hopefully that clears everything up in relation to the multiplayer side of things, and you can now secure whichever edition you like and get to playing Halo at your leisure.
