Do We Finally Have an Official Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Date?

Hollow Knight remains one of the most renowned and influential indie games to release in recent years. Although, “recent years” may be generous, considering it’s been nearly a decade since Hollow Knight first hit shelves. Based in Adelaide, the Hollow Knight developers at Team Cherry remain one of the foremost prides of Australia’s game industry.

Every so often, this pride flirts dangerously close to shame. After Hollow Knight: Silksong was first revealed all the way back in February 2019, discourse around the game has taken us on quite the bumpy ride, to say the least. In truth, the development cycle has mostly been filled with nothing but radio silence. This includes, but is certainly not limited to, the ever-elusive Hollow Knight: Silksong release date.

The Hollow Knight Hype Cycle May Finally Come to an End

This silence has long been met with plenty of Hollow Knight fans stubbornly coping seemingly any time a major games event comes and goes without giving the slightest tidbit of Silksong news. More fans still have instead resorted to the internet equivalent of throwing tomatoes. Most of this discourse remains in good fun; including our “shame” remark from earlier, we promise.

After all, most Hollow Knight fans simply want Silksong to be the best game it can be. The truth is Hollow Knight left impossibly big shoes to fill, so it’s no surprise that Team Cherry may want to take its time. Likewise, it surely hasn’t escape Team Cherry’s notice that their fanbase has become increasingly impatient. As if in a resounding response to this chorus of clamoring, Silksong news has finally arrived.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Date Is Rapidly Approaching

The short answer to the question posed by our headline is no. No we don’t. However, the long answer is that what we do have happens to be the closest thing we’ve had to official since Silksong was first announced.

Discourse around Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s release date reared its head once again shortly after the game made a brief appearance at Microsoft’s June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. Xbox President Sarah Bond made a slight gaffe during the show by implying that Silksong would be a launch title for the ROG Ally X handheld. Team Cherry was quick to correct this miscommunication, though not very publicly.

As reported by IGN, the apparent announcement was done unceremoniously over Discord. Team Cherry confirmed that Silksong would not be a launch title of the ROG Ally X, and would instead release before the holidays. As with many rumors and developments during the long wait for Silksong, this latest announcement is both a blessing and a curse.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Deserves Cautious Optimism

At first, this lines up perfectly with Team Cherry’s previous update and assertion that the game would arrive in 2025. However, the holidays truly aren’t as far as they seem, and fans still have little to no information to go off of. Instead, they’ve mostly been left with the hope that their patience will be rewarded. Of course, it very well may be.

However, certain members of the video game community are hardly known to rest on their laurels. On the contrary, plenty of new Hollow Knight: Silksong leaks come out of the woodworks every single day. The credibility of any given leak should always be put into question, and the morality of them is equally shaky.

Thankfully for the game’s more spoiler-free fans, Team Cherry has stepped in as a more credible source. First confirming Silksong‘s release date during a Nintendo Direct, and now willingly combatting rumors, this is a remarkable change of pace from the radio silence that’s been in the air until now. This suggests that Silksong may finally be approaching after all.

Team Cherry has yet to flinch from the 2025 release date, and only time will tell if this promise holds true. Until then, fans are back to the waiting game, which they should at least be used to by now. If Nintendo Direct rumors are any more reliable than the Xbox Games Showcase, then the confirmation fans have been waiting for may finally arrive any day now.
