The existence of two new Nintendo-related film production companies have come to light: Nintendo Studios LLC, and M Brothers Productions LLC, both of which are working on the production of the upcoming Mario movie.

Keen-eyed Twitter user MichaelO2k spotted the names of the companies while browsing filings for the United States Copyright office – noting them under the entry for the ‘Untitled Super Mario Bros. Project: Motion Picture.’

No other information is given about the two companies. It’s speculated that Nintendo Studios has been created as a long-term subsidiary of Nintendo, dedicated to handle further adaptations of its properties to the film and TV spaces, in the same way the Marvel Studios and PlayStation Studios operate.

Further speculation by VGC suggests that M Brothers Productions is a company which has been formed purely for the purposes of handling the production of the announced Mario film, citing the early practices of Marvel productions like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

Few details have been revealed about the Mario movie so far aside from its production house, Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Sing, The Secret Life of Pets), and its star-studded cast, featuring Chris Pratt, Anya-Taylor Joy, and several other Hollywood A-listers. The film was delayed from its original release window of the end of 2022, to early 2023.

It’s been reported that Nintendo already has plans for multiple film adaptations, which explains the formation of Nintendo Studios. A Donkey Kong adaptation featuring Seth Rogen is allegedly the next project in line, according to industry insiders. Rogan will play Donkey Kong in the Mario movie.
