Charm Entertainment ordered to halt casino operations in Sweden

Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has temporarily revoked Charm Entertainment AB’s licence for commercial land-based casino gaming and ordered the operator to stop all licensed activity immediately. The interim decision is dated 1 October 2026 and applies while the regulator considers whether Charm still meets the requirements to hold a licence.

There’s no direct PlayStation or Nintendo connection here; the bridge for GamesHub readers is the wider world of licensed gaming, where regulators set the rules for who can operate. In this case, the action concerns casino gambling, not videogames, and turns on the regulator’s concerns about financial records and alleged offences.

Accounting concerns and links to Lucky 21

Spelinspektionen began a supervisory investigation on 27 May 2026, examining Charm’s annual reports for 2023, 2024 and 2025 alongside material from a criminal preliminary investigation heard before Södertälje District Court. The review identified discrepancies in the company’s accounts, including two separate filings for the 2023 financial year.

The regulator also pointed to current and former executives associated with Charm who have been charged with serious offences, including aggravated accounting offences, in connection with Lucky 21 Casino AB, a previously licensed operator. Charm and Lucky 21 operated at closely situated locations and shared much of the same personnel, leading the regulator to suspect that similar improper practices may have continued at Charm.

These are charges and the regulator’s assessment, not convictions. Spelinspektionen said it considered there to be probable grounds to believe Charm no longer met the statutory licensing requirements, and that an immediate halt was needed to reduce the risk of continued misconduct.

How long does the interim revocation last?

The licence action stays in force until a final ruling on the licensing question, but no later than 1 April 2027 under the current decision. An interim measure is a temporary step taken before that final decision; the regulator says it may be extended once, for up to a further six months, if special circumstances apply.

What happens next?

The investigation considered whether Charm complied with Sweden’s Gambling Act and related tax, accounting and bookkeeping laws. Spelinspektionen treats compliance with those rules as a basic condition of a gambling licence, and says gambling operations must not enable criminal activity or continue with deficient accounting standards.

The next confirmed milestone is a final decision on Charm’s licence, with the interim revocation capped at 1 April 2027 by the current order. Licensing decisions can take different forms across regulated markets, as seen in the Netherlands’ operator licence renewals; Charm’s case, though, will turn on the Swedish regulator’s ongoing review. Spelinspektionen’s official notice confirms the immediate cessation requirement.
