Five heroes get dark-fantasy makeovers in Overwatch Season 5

Overwatch Season 5 launches on October 6 with a limited-time Solo Leveling crossover at the centre of its Halloween-heavy content drop. Blizzard’s Shadow Monarch collaboration runs through October 26, bringing dark-fantasy and anime-inspired skins for five heroes.

The crossover gives collectors a neat roster of character transformations rather than a single themed outfit: Genji becomes Sung Jinwoo, Reaper takes on Igris, Anran is Cha Hae-In, Reinhardt is Iron, and Lifeweaver becomes Choi Jong-In. It’s a strong hook for anime fans, and the window to grab the cosmetics is firmly limited.

The collaboration is one part of Reign of Talon – Season 5: A Grim Doctrine, which also adds Doctrine as a new Talon Support Hero. His Eternal Scepter can heal allies and damage enemies at mid-to-long range, while bat-like drones boost his team’s healing and attack speed; his Ultimate redistributes lifeforce, granting allies Overhealth while reducing enemy health.

Doctrine’s arrival ties into Grímsvötn, a new Escort map set in a Talon-controlled prison inside an Icelandic volcanic fissure. Players following the character’s introduction can catch up on his Overwatch hero trial, while the season also brings a major shift for Sombra, who moves from Damage to Support, and a Roadhog rework. Revised Unvaulted Passes will let players work through rewards from Seasons 1 to 15 that they missed.

That’s a sizeable set of changes beyond the cosmetics. Sombra’s move to Support is among the season’s biggest gameplay adjustments, giving returning players a good reason to revisit how their team compositions work.

Halloween events and Mythic cosmetics

Halloween gets its own event in Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games, running October 6 to November 2. Each time players die, they return with random new powers; weekly votes decide whether Ashe, Moira or Winston rises from the grave next, with the roster eventually growing to 20 heroes.

Season 5 also introduces two Mythics: Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang and Treblemaker, Lucio’s first Mythic Weapon. Halloween-themed Battle Pass skins round out the seasonal look, while the Tech Witches collection and Team Drives arrive on their own short schedules.
