Epic Games reveal The Simpsons is coming to Fornite’s UEFN as the next IP cross-over

Epic Games has announced that The Simpsons IP is coming to Fortnite’s UEFN, meaning fans will be able to make official servers using Simpsons IP assets.

The news comes from today’s State of Unreal showcase, where Epic had Unreal news to share on its engine, alongside third parties sharing how they use Unreal Engine 5 in their titles.

The Simpsons is coming to Fortnite Islands later this year

The news comes from Epic talking about its skin crossovers and season crossovers. It talks about how The Simpsons season-long event came with more than 80 million unique players, alongside over 750 million hours played. With numbers like that, it’s part of the reason why The Simpsons is joining the IP programme later this year.

It comes after Fortnite worked with the Star Wars IP, joining its UEFN editor. It showed some stats in the presentation, including Fortnite reaching 8 million unique players within 72 hours of the servers going live. There were over 6.5 million plays in six days for Galactic Siege, with 3.4 million players checking out Escape From Vader, and Droid Tycoon being the second most played game of the Star Wars UEFN launch week.

Clearly, there’s a lot of legroom for major crossover and fan-made content for these major IPs, which is why The Simpsons, being 35 years old now, can have some longevity for all demographics in Fortnite, in a similar ilk to Star Wars.

We don’t really know when The Simpsons mash-up will launch, but we do know it will be sometime later this year.

The announcement also came with some details of Unreal 5.6’s release, offering better optimization, so much so that even the Switch can get the engine running games at 60FPS. Perhaps we will start seeing better-optimized games running UE5 under the hood.
