Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced multiple sales records for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as the game has become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title in history. In its first 24 hours, a whopping 2.5 million copies of the game were sold worldwide – likely as a result of high anticipation, Spider-Man’s mainstream popularity, and strong critical reviews.

Notably, the original Marvel’s Spider-Man set similar records on its debut, selling 3.3 million copies in its first three days. In keeping up with tradition, its sequel is continuing to blaze a trail.

It’s certainly a game that’s earned its recent sales success. In the GamesHub review, we called it an incredibly cinematic and novel adventure, peppered with moments of pure awe. “Insomniac Games has poured soul into this adventure … fleshing out its world and characters in ways that feel so memorable that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lasts well beyond its runtime,” we wrote.

Per Sony, it’s Insomniac’s dedication to innovating at a high standard that has aided this sales success, driving player interest with sweeping storytelling and complex game design.

“Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences,” Eric Lempel, SVP, Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations, Sony Interactive Entertainment said in a press release.

“With an epic storyline, two playable Super Heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans – we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure.”

Give the milestone already achieved, we expect to see fresh updates and figures for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the coming weeks. It’s already a history-making game, and it will likely continue flirting with new records as more players discover its charms.
