Pokemon TCG Pocket release disappointing Premium Pass

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest expansion, Eevee Grove, has already been out for almost a week, and now DeNa have unveiled the latest Premium Pass for this season.

As usual, the season pass gives access to one extra daily pack as well as a one-off card and easy missions to unlock exclusive cosmetics like coins, playmats, card sleeves, covers, etc.

Unsurprisingly, all of the new cosmetics for the Eevee Grove pass are based around Eevee, who is the star of this expansion alongside its popular ‘Eeveelutions’ like Sylveon and Umbreon.

However, some players have taken issue with this, considering the fact that the adorable normal type already has plenty of cosmetics in the game.

Pokémon Pocket players already have access to every type of cosmetic with Eevee on it from when the game first released.

While the new playmat and card sleeve are a little different as they focus solely on Eevee, the new coin is egregious as there’s barely a difference between the old Eevee coin and the new coin.

It’s understandable that Eevee has been picked because of its popularity, but there are eight Eeveelutions that are just as beloved.

Sylveon in particular would have been a good choice with its new Sylveon ex card added to the game, with a powerful ability which allows players to draw extra cards.

There is also a lot of frustration amongst the player base over the choice of the Premium Pass card.

The one-off card this time is a new version of Tapu Koko ex, in which the only difference is that the legendary electric-type is facing the other direction.

Yes, really, that is the only discernible difference.

It feels a little lazy, especially when you look at the alternate art Zeraora was given with the previous Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion which introduced Ultra Beasts.

However, the bright side is that Tapu Koko ex pairs very nicely with Zeraora’s ability to generate electric energy.

Especially with the Electrical Cord tool, which passes on electric energy to the bench after death.

Each recent Premium Pass has also followed the trend of offering a Pokémon card from the previous expansion.

DeNa appear to be offering more catch-up options for new players as the shiny cards added to each expansion seemingly serve the same purpose.

But for the dedicated playerbase who have been playing since launch, they only offer more filler cards which they have little use for.
