Although legal since May 2019, state laws and regulations severely limit Montana sports betting opportunities. This is because there is only one online vendor, Sports Bet Montana, which only allows sports wagers from legal physical locations. As such, sportsbooks based overseas are an excellent alternative for residents of the Treasure State, enabling bets on local teams, such as the Bobcats and the Grizzlies, online from the comfort of your own home.

We’ve compiled a list of the top Montana sports betting sites. Our expert team has rigorously tested these sportsbooks, ensuring they meet strict licensing and safety regulations, feature competitive odds and lines, and offer valuable sports betting promotions. Best Montana Online Sports Betting Sites Ranked

We’ve compiled a list of our top 10 legal offshore sportsbooks to bet at. Since there is only one native licensed sportsbook in Montana, these sites all offer deeper betting markets, more valuable promotions, and, often, superior odds. Check them out in the table below.

Find the Best Montana Sportsbook For You

Our team has reviewed the top three Montana sports betting sites in greater detail for your convenience. Here you will find each sportsbook’s specialty, and what we thought made them stand out in a hyper-competitive market.

1. BUSR – Best For NFL Futures, Including on the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks

busr montana sports betting site

BUSR offers an extensive range of NFL futures, including markets on Montana sports betting favorites such as the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.

NFL Futures Markets Availability at BUSR
Super Bowl LX
AFC Championship
AFC Division Odds
NFC Championship
NFC Division Odds
NFL Regular Season Player Props
NFL Coach of the Year
NFL Exact Outcomes

If you’re riding high on a team before the season begins, BUSR is our top pick. Betting on futures can give you much greater payout potential than regular games and this platform locks in its value early with sharp odds on football outrights. Market coverage throughout the regular and post seasons is just as strong, with a host of team/player prop bets and alternates available, along with live betting and select live streaming. The only negative we found when reviewing BUSR is that no regular-season win total lines were available.

We also like how easy it is to navigate through the site. All you need to do is select the ‘Sportsbook’ option at the top of the page, select ‘NFL’ on the left-hand side of the screen, and the available markets will be displayed. From there, you can wager on NFC Conference/Division odds, etc. For example, you could bet on the Seahawks winning the NFC West or their total amount of wins from the first five games at industry-leading odds. These speculative bets keep you engaged throughout the season and could lead to huge payouts if your luck is in.

💡 Expert’s Opinion

We appreciate that BUSR has a dedicated NFL betting page that explains different bet types. For instance, the sportsbook details what futures betting is and how to maximize your wager potential, helping you make more informed betting decisions. In addition, BUSR achieved a 96% Gold Medal performance by Zendesk in 2020, demonstrating its expertise and quality services.

2. BetOnline – Best For Sports-Specific Promotions, Including on the MLB, NBA, UFC, and NHL

betonline mobile site for montana sports betting online

We consider BetOnline a top Montana sportsbook due to its sports-specific promotions on the most popular professional US sports leagues, such as the MLB, NBA, and NHL. These promotions should give you more value on your wagers when betting on your favorite teams.

Promotion Name Description
No Hitter, No Problem Your bet is refunded up to $100 in cash if the opposing team’s pitcher throws a no-hitter.
NBA One-Point Payback Receive a refund up to $100 in cash for any moneyline bets on Tuesday’s NBA games that lose by a single point.
NHL Power Play Payday Thursday’s NHL games are eligible for double winnings up to $100 in cash if your team scores two power-play goals and wins the game.
UFC Split Decision Refund UFC pay-per-view main card fights are eligible for refunds up to $250 when your fighter loses via a split decision.

Losing your bets by a narrow margin is the worst. That’s why we like betting at BetOnline. Its sports-specific promotions refund you when your wagers narrowly lose. With promos available on various leagues, you should be able to find one suitable for you, whether you’re a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Seattle Mariners, or the Colorado Avalanche. That said, we thought BetOnline’s sports promos could be improved by adding a greater variety of no-sweat bets and by introducing bet-and-gets.

💡 Expert’s Opinion

During our review process, we experienced zero issues at BetOnline – something not entirely unexpected since the bookmaker holds a valid license in Panama and has over 25 years of experience. They are also officially partnered with LaLiga, Matchroom Boxing, and Golden Boy Promotions, meaning LaLiga promotions throughout the soccer season and extensive boxing markets and props.

3. BetUS – Best For 125% Sportsbook Sign-Up Bonus up to $2,000

betus sportsbook in montana

A top Montana sports betting site will typically feature a hefty welcome bonus. That’s what you get at BetUS. It boasts a welcome offer of 125% up to $2,000 on sports with promo code “JOIN125.” This will help add to your bankroll when betting on sports.

Welcome Offer 100% on your first three deposits up to $2,000
Promo Code JOIN125
Minimum Deposit $100
Rollover Requirements 14x

We like the value you get with BetUS’ welcome offer bonus funds. A 100% deposit match doubles your bankroll, giving you more opportunities to bet. It’s also available across your first three deposits, meaning you don’t need to make a substantial $2,000 initial deposit in one go. A $100 minimum deposit allows casual players to get involved and increase their deposits once they feel comfortable, typically with their second and third deposits. While the 14x rollover requirements were a little high, we’ve seen them higher at other Montana sports betting sites.

💡 Expert’s Opinion

BetUS has been operating since 1994 and has over 30 years of experience as one of the leading sports betting sites in the industry. BetUS TV features a range of talk shows that offer expert insight and analysis on the MLB, college football and basketball, the NBA, and the NFL. Other MT sports betting sites fail to provide such in-depth analysis. This should help you find more winning wagers and make more informed decisions regarding your sports bets, so it’s perfect for newcomers to the game.

How to Choose the Best Montana Betting Site

We want to share the meticulous process our experts follow each time they review gambling sites. We ensure that the bookmaker matches eight criteria, including licensing, has options to bet on the top Montana sports betting teams, and features top bonuses and promotions.

  • Accessibility from Montana: The sportsbooks we recommend must be accessible to residents of Montana. We also tend to vouce for platforms that are available in all US states and that come without geofencing, meaning you can take your mobile betting across states lines into South Dakota and continue to wager.
  • Licensing & Security: We verify whether reputable authorities have licensed the top Montana sports betting sites. These platforms are held accountable for their actions and must adhere to strict regulations to ensure your safety. BetUS, for example, is licensed by the Island of Mwali–Comoros Union.
  • MT Team Coverage & Betting Markets: We want to see sites offering lines on Montana’s most popular sports teams. Deep betting markets, such as player props, specials, and futures, are needed to keep players entertained. You can find NFL and NHL futures at Sportsbetting.ag.
  • Welcome Bonus: Starting your Montana sports betting experience with a generous welcome bonus will boost your bankroll. This will allow you to try out the sportsbook without needing to deposit large amounts of money. We also verify fair rollover requirements, ensuring you have a genuine opportunity to cash out your winnings. We like the 125% sportsbook sign-up bonus up to $2,000 in sportsbook wagers at BetUS.
  • Banking Methods: Online sports betting in Montana should be easy. That’s why we want to see the most popular payment methods that Montanans favor, such as debit cards, e-wallets, and prepaid cards. Betting with your preferred banking option will make transactions more comfortable for you. BetOnline allows you to make deposits using the most common methods, including crypto.
  • Recurring Promotions: The best sportsbooks will also have beneficial recurring promotions. These include deposit matches, no-sweat bets, odds boosts, rebates, and VIP programs. These will provide you with more value as you bet on the site. Bet105 offers a wide range of promotions, such as live betting bonuses and odds boosts, as well as NHL odds boosts and NFL cashback.
  • Mobile/App: You won’t typically find any of our recommended offshore sites in the app store, but they will be fully optimized for mobile use. This will allow you to bet on the go with your smartphone, which is more convenient than a laptop. Wild.io, for instance, is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
  • Customer Support: A top MT sportsbook will have 24/7 customer support. We test the effectiveness of the support team via email, mobile, and the help center, ensuring you can get functional help anytime. Everygame, for example, has 24/7 customer support via live chat and email.

Registration: How to Sign Up at a Montana Online Sports Betting Site & Claim Your Welcome Bonus

We’ve simplified the sign-up procedure at Montana sports betting sites into four easy steps. Check them out below.

  1. Select a Sportsbook: Choose from our recommended sportsbooks, ensuring they match your preferences.
  2. Create your Account: Register your account by entering your email address and password. Provide necessary identification documents, such as your driver’s license, to pass the Know Your Customer (KYC) process. If verifying your identity is not something you like the sound of, take a look at the best no KYC casinos and sportsbooks via the link.
  3. Make a Deposit: Make a deposit using your preferred banking option, ensuring it is eligible for the welcome bonus you want to claim. You must also verify if a minimum deposit and a promo code are required for the welcome offer.
  4. Start Betting: You can now bet on your favorite sports and teams. Ensure that you clear any rollover requirements within the specified period outlined in the terms and conditions.

Is Sports Betting Legal in Montana?

Montana sports betting was legalized in May 2019 and launched in March 2020 following the passing of House Bill 725. The MT legal sports betting age is 18 as of 2025, and players can bet at physical locations across the state at licensed lottery retailers. Hundreds of options are available, including over 70 in Billings and over 40 in Missoula.

You can legally use Montana’s sole online betting option, Sports Bet Montana, to manage your account, such as registering, uploading documents, exploring markets, depositing/withdrawing, and adding wagers to your betslip. However, you cannot place bets while outside of permitted physical locations.

Is There Legal Retail Sports Betting in Montana?

It is legal to bet at retail Montana sports betting locations, and the state has the most physical sports wagering locations (141) in the US. This is because state law permits lottery vendors, such as bars, restaurants, and convenience stores, to offer sports betting.

Montana has well over 100 sports betting kiosks, and you don’t need to be a Montana resident to bet at these locations. Players from neighboring states, such as Idaho, can visit and place wagers. The Montana Lottery website provides all the necessary information to locate a retailer.

Is Online Sports Betting Legal in Montana?

HB 725 legalized online sports betting in Montana. However, Sports Bet Montana is the only regulated, native sportsbook in the state. This unfortunately means that you can only place bets online at a physical location that permits sports betting.

You can still manage your account from anywhere online in Montana. However, you cannot place an actual bet at home or anywhere outside verified Montana sports betting locations.

When Did Montana Legalize Sports Betting?

Montana legal sports betting was signed into law in May 2019 with Senate Bill 25 and HB 725. Governor Steve Bullock signed the bills that legalized sports betting in Big Sky Country and put it under the jurisdiction of the Montana Lottery. The first bets, though, were not placed until March 2020.

Does Montana Have Tribal Casinos with Sportsbooks?

Montana has approved tribal casinos to offer sportsbooks. The first tribes were approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in January 2024. This saw the Silver Wolf Casino, owned by the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, become the first tribe-owned casino authorized to offer sports wagering in the state. There are still no official plans or details of Silver Wolf Casino’s sports betting offerings.

Seven other tribes have casinos in Montana. However, none of them offer sports betting yet either.

Silver Wolf Casino 300 MT-25, Wolf Point, MT 59201, United States

Horse Racing Betting Legalities in Montana

Betting on horse racing is permitted in Montana. You must be 18 or over for both in-person and online horse racing wagering. There are two tracks where you can bet on horse racing in person in the state: The Great Falls Turf Club and the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale.

You can also bet on horse racing online in Montana, as the Montana Code permits Advanced Deposit Wagering (ADW). The only stipulation here is that the Montana Board of Horse Racing must license the operator for it to be legal. You can bet on online horse racing at TwinSpires and Day At The Track sites, or via offshore sportsbooks, such as those listed in our MT sports betting guide.

College Sports Betting Legalities in Montana

There are no laws that restrict college sports betting in Montana. You can back the Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats in NCAA football and basketball at Sports Bet Montana. You can also wager on college player props in the state – something which is prohibited in many other states. Online college sports betting is also permitted, as long as you are at a legal physical location.

Esports Betting Legalities in Montana

You cannot legally partake in esports betting in the Big Sky Country because there are no laws that allow it. This is because esports is not (yet) considered a traditional sport in Montana.

Politics & Entertainment Betting Legalities in Montana

Montana sports betting laws prohibit wagering on politics and entertainment. As was the case with esports in the previous section, HB 725 only permitted sports betting. Therefore, sportsbooks under the Montana Lottery are prohibited from offering any markets for betting on politics or entertainment.

DFS in Montana

Daily Fantasy Sports are not legal in Montana. As per MCA 23-5-802, you can conduct or participate in fantasy sports leagues, but you cannot legally bet on fantasy sports leagues via mobile or an internet browser. You also cannot legally partake in DFS leagues run by FanDuel or DraftKings online. However, in-person fantasy leagues are permitted.

What about Offshore Sportsbooks in MT?

Offshore sportsbooks allow you to place wagers on sports events on sites that do not operate within the United States. No specific federal laws prohibit those in the US from placing bets at offshore betting sites.

Our recommended sites are all licensed by international regulators, ensuring they are safe to play at. They have a license from authorities such as the Gaming Commission of Panama. That means these sportsbooks must adhere to the laws and regulations set by regulators and provide responsible gambling tools, such as time limits, loss limits, and self-exclusion options so long as the authority stipulates they should.

Since there is only one licensed sportsbook in Montana, offshore sportsbooks come with dozens of advantages. For instance, you can benefit from more extensive market coverage, more competitive odds and lines, and increased banking options. Here are some benefits of betting at offshore bookmakers:

  • Political, entertainment, and esports options: You cannot legally place political, entertainment, or esports bets at regulated Montana sports betting sites. Offshore sportsbooks, such as BetOnline, BetUS, and BUSR, offer these markets.
  • More competitive odds: The lone Montana sports betting site has no competition, so it doesn’t need to set competitive odds. Offshore sportsbooks can give you a better price.
  • Place bets online anywhere: Montana gambling laws prohibit placing online wagers unless you are physically present at a legal location. Offshore bookmakers do not have the same limitations, meaning you can bet on the Broncos or the Seahawks from your home.
  • Crypto options: The only regulated sportsbook in Montana doesn’t accept crypto. Platforms such as Bet105, BUSR, and BetOnline all accept cryptocurrency transactions, allowing you to benefit from perks like instant payouts and anonymity at the best crypto betting sites.

Mobile Betting Options & Sports Betting Apps in Montana

Montana sports betting apps are legal, but, as mentioned numerous times, there is only one licensed, native option: Sports Bet Montana

mobile sports betting in montana on busr

As the only regulated sportsbook in Montana, it offers a mobile app that can be downloaded directly from the app stores. The offshore sportsbooks we recommend do not have any dedicated apps to download, as they operate within a legal gray area, meaning they can’t offer their products in US app stores. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean you cannot use them to place bets on your smartphone.

Simply add the mobile browser to your home screen and use an offshore MT sports betting app in much the same way you would a bona-fide native app. This works as a fully optimized version of the sportsbook on your phone and is an excellent alternative. This is because you don’t need to take the time to download an app, and it won’t take up any storage space. Our top three picks, BUSR, BetOnline, and BetUS, all have optimized mobile versions that you can use to place bets on iOS and Android devices.

The Path to Montana Sports Gambling Legislation

Since March 2020, placing sports bets online and in person in Montana has been legal. You can even bet on college player props, which many other states, such as Ohio, have prohibited. Daily fantasy sports are still banned under Montana gambling law, but recent efforts have been made to revise the legislation. Take a look at the legislation timeline below.

  • May 12, 2025: Governor Greg Gianforte signs SB 555 into law, which expands the definition of internet gambling to online casinos that don’t use any form of currency and bans any forms of gambling using virtual currency.
  • March 26, 2025: SB 551 proposes that DFS be regulated under the parimutuel model and that online fantasy sports be legalized.
  • March 2020: The first sports bets are placed in Montana.
  • December 2019: Sports Bet Montana is launched, but is not yet ready to take any wagers.
  • May 3, 2019: Governor Steve Bullock signs HB 725 into law, authorizing Montana sports betting. It states that the state lottery must provide sports betting.
  • April 25, 2019: The Senate did not sign HB 475 into law to expand parimutuel horse racing betting through sports betting, as proposed by the Board of Horse Racing.
  • March 28, 2019: HB 475 was passed in the House to expand parimutuel horse racing wagering to sports betting through the Board of Horse Racing.
  • March 23, 2019: SB330 further aims to revise gambling laws in Montana, including the creation of the Montana Sports Betting Act, and proposes that taverns can provide sports betting terminals. However, it is vetoed in favor of HB 725.
  • March 18, 2019: SB 25 becomes law, revising Montana’s gambling laws, but excluding DFS.
  • May 14, 2018: The US Supreme Court ruled the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) unconstitutional. This is the first step towards authorizing sports betting across the United States.
  • 2005: The Law states that online gambling in Montana is illegal, under SB 103.
  • December 8, 2016: SB 25 was initially introduced to revise gambling laws, which could permit DFS, but it was not signed into law.
  • 1965: Montana Code 23-4-301 established the Board of Horse Racing to license parimutuel wagering.

How Does Montana’s Sports Betting Legislation Compare to Its Neighbors’

Montana’s neighboring states have much stricter online and in-person sports betting laws. That’s why it is common for people from nearby states to travel to Montana to participate in sports betting. Offshore sportsbooks are also an option for people living in states that prohibit sports wagering.

Wyoming

You can legally participate in online Wyoming sports betting. However, there are no physical locations in the state that allow this. Mobile wagering has been available since September 1, 2021. The legal betting age is 18. College prop bets, along with political and entertainment betting, are prohibited.

Idaho

There are no forms of legal sports betting in Idaho, including online and in-person sports wagering. DFS has been banned since 2016. However, you can bet on horse racing via parimutuel betting at licensed vendors.

North Dakota

Online sports betting is not permitted in North Dakota, but it is available legally at tribal retail locations. Three locations are authorized to offer sports betting under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The legal betting age is 21.

South Dakota

Sports betting in South Dakota is legal at tribal in-person locations, but it is not permitted online. Deadwood and tribal casinos in the state offer sports betting. Online sports betting, meanwhile, is illegal, while DFS operates in a legal gray area.

Most Popular Sports Teams, Athletes, & In-State Events for Online Betting in Montana

Montana does not have any major professional sports teams. However, Montanans still follow pro teams across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS in nearby states. The Grizzlies and Bobcats are the most popular teams for Montana sports betting, though. These are storied college teams, renowned for their NCAA football and basketball programs.

🏈 NFL 🏀 NBA ⚾️ MLB 🏒 NHL ⚽️ MLS 🏀🏈 NCAA Other
Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes, Minnesota Wild Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake Montana Grizzlies, Montana State Bobcats UFC

Montana Grizzlies

The Grizzlies are Montana’s most popular sports team. Notably, in NCAA football, they have won 19 titles in the Big Sky Conference to date. You can find Grizzlies’ NCAA markets with top odds for both football and basketball at SportsBetting.ag. We also like the $50 no-sweat bet offer at Bet105 on NCAA parlays.

Montana State Bobcats

The main rivals of the Grizzlies, the Bobcats, are also very popular in NCAA football and basketball. NCAA markets are available at Wild.io. The platform also offers a 50% combo boost on all sports, making it the top spot for collegiate parlays, in our opinion.

The Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks

Montana has no NFL teams, so college football is more popular in the state. However, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, the closest franchises in terms of geo-proximity, still have a strong following. You can bet on NFL futures at competitive odds at the likes of BUSR and BetUS, and the latter has NFL-specific shows featuring expert picks.

UFC

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is much less popular than football or basketball in Montana. However, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has recently experienced a surge in popularity, especially when Montanan native Sean O’Malley fights, particularly in Helena, where he was born. Nicknamed ‘Suga’, O’Malley has fought at major UFC events, including UFC 306 and UFC 316. BetOnline offers a wide range of moneyline markets for the UFC and also features a UFC split decision refund promo.

Best Montana Sports Betting Promos for 2025

A top MT sportsbook promo typically features a substantial welcome bonus amount and fair rollover requirements of 15x or less. We also appreciate the availability of various recurring promotions on the site. These will boost your bankroll and add value to multiple sports and top professional leagues.

sports welcome offer at busr MT sports betting site

Deposit Match

Montana sportsbooks will match your deposit up to a percentage, typically 100%. You will likely find this as part of your sign-up offer, but some MT sports betting sites will provide reload deposit match promos. We like BetUS’s deposit match welcome offer since you can get 125% up to $2,000, and the rollover requirements are a reasonable 14x.

No-Sweat Bets

No-sweat bets are where the bookmaker refunds your losing bets. The refund will match the size of your stake, and is usually rewarded as a free bet. Bet105 offers a $50 no-sweat NBA parlay on Tuesdays.

Sports/Horse Racing Rebates

Most top MT online sports betting sites will feature a sports and/or a horse racing rebate promotion. This will provide you with a percentage refund on your losing wagers, typically over a period of one week. This usually ranges from 2% to 20%. BUSR, for instance, has a 10% horse racing rebate paid daily on selected wagers.

Odds Boosts

Many sports betting sites offer odds boosts on exclusive markets, where the bookmaker increases the odds for a particular event or line. We appreciate the daily odds boosts offered by BetOnline on various markets, including MLB, NFL, and NBA. The veteran sportsbook also features a dedicated section on the left-hand side of the menu, listing its daily odds boosts.

Sport-Specific Ongoing Promotions

Bookmakers will target specific sports or leagues and tailor their promotions. Promos on your favorite sport or league can benefit you, such as odds boosts, refunds, and double winnings. We can’t list every ongoing promotion at every Montana sportsbook, but you can find some select examples from BetOnline below – just to give you a taste of what to expect:

  • Odds Boosters: Better odds daily on MLB, boxing, UFC, and NFL markets.
  • NHL Power Play Payday: On Thursdays, you can get double winnings up to $100 in cash on your NHL bets if your team wins and scores two power play goals.
  • NBA One-Point Payback: Tuesday’s NBA games are eligible for a refund up to $100 in cash if your moneyline bet loses by just a point.

VIP Programs

Top sportsbooks will have VIP or loyalty programs that reward you for regularly betting on the site. You may receive perks such as cash back, an account manager, and exclusive bonuses. BetOnline is one such example, offering a tiered VIP rewards program that provides level-up bonuses, birthday rewards, monthly cash boosts, prioritized withdrawals, and more.

Montana Sports Betting Tips and Mistakes to Avoid

The sites we recommend are always fully verified and hold reputable international licenses. However, players can still make mistakes when playing at licensed sportsbooks, such as not reading the terms and conditions in full. Here are some things you should avoid.

  • Failing to read the bonus terms and conditions: This is a common mistake made by players who are eager to get started with their welcome bonus. However, it’s essential to read the terms in full carefully, noting expiry periods, promo codes, and rollover requirements.
  • Chasing losses: It’s tough when your sports bet loses. But don’t chase your losses and compromise your bankroll. You won’t think clearly if you’re trying to recover your lost money. Take a break before placing another bet.
  • Failing to research: Basic research, such as a team’s recent form, injury report, and key stats, should be a minimum requirement before you place your bet.
  • Not shopping around: Offshore sportsbooks have plenty of competition. You will likely find better odds at different sites, so shop around and compare prices to find the best value.
  • Focusing on parlays: Parlays can offer greater payout potential, but are much harder to land. Focus on singles more, as there’s less room for error, and they’re usually more likely to win.

Responsible Montana Sports Gambling

Gambling responsibly is an essential part of Montana sports betting. That’s why we always encourage you to make the most of the responsible gambling tools that sportsbooks provide, such as loss limits, reality checks, and cool-off periods.

If you need support with your gambling habits, you can access the following helplines:

  • 1-800-GAMBLER: You can call the National Problem Gambling Helpline for free on a 24/7 basis at 1‑800‑522‑4700.
  • Montana Problem Gambling Helpline: In-state resources are available by calling 888-900-9979.
