League of Legends is one of the biggest competitive games in the world, in no small part thanks to its numerous spin-offs that continue to draw in a more casual audience. League of Legends is continuing its quest for Esports domination, with its sights set on the fighting game community next.
2XKO is lovingly referred to as “the League of Legends fighting game”, at least in layman’s terms. The game has been off to a bumpy ride, with even diehard fans unable to settle the debate on if the game should have stuck with the Project L moniker. It’s good news then, that the latest 2XKO dev update has come to deliver a one-two punch of hype-building announcements.
2XKO’s Launch Roster Just Got Another Newcomer from Arcane
2XKO announced the identity of a new playable character, as well as the date of an upcoming beta test. A newcomer to the launch roster is the more eye-catching announcement, while the beta test is perhaps the more actually impactful one. This goes doubly so when one notes that the actual pick for 2XKO‘s new character should come as no surprise whatsoever.
Vi is the de facto main character of Arcane, and the newly-announced next fighter to join 2XKO. Vi joins her sister Jinx on the roster, which means the makeup of the game’s launch roster is now as follows:
- Ahri
- Braum
- Darius
- Ekko
- Illaoi
- Jinx
- Vi
- Yasuo
It’s surely no coincidence that three spots on the roster are taken up by characters that appeared in Arcane, nor that characters like Darius are likely to appear in the rumored upcoming Noxus show. More concerning is the fact that the roster only rounds out to eight characters. Eight is a relatively small size for a launch roster, especially for a 2v2 tag fighter.
Thankfully, developers have promised to continue adding characters well after the game’s release. If this is indeed the case, one can only hope that players will be treated to a wider diversity of what League of Legends has to offer. With a world as expansive as Runeterra is, there’s practically limitless potential for developers to play with, and it would be nothing less than a shame to only explore a handful of areas.
When is the Next 2XKO Beta Test?
Dedicated fans have had a few opportunities to get their hands on 2XKO, though many of these have come with exclusive access. The next is no different, as the next 2XKO Beta Test is in fact an invite-only closed beta. The closed beta is currently scheduled to begin on September 9, 2025. Players can sign up for a chance to join the closed beta here.
Vi will be available to play during the closed beta, as well as at Evo 2025. If you were one of the lucky few to participate in Alpha Lab 1 or 2, then you will be automatically registered for the closed beta. Finally, players who make it into the closed beta will be given a referral code, which they can use to bring a friend along as a proverbial plus one. If you’re hoping to get in on the fun, you’d better work fast, or at the very least know someone who does.
