Blizzard has confirmed The Last Titan as World of Warcraft‘s next expansion, with a release planned for 2027. The reveal came during BlizzCon’s opening ceremonies, though Blizzard kept its cards close to its chest, offering only a brief cinematic teaser rather than a full deep dive.
Blizzard Confirms The Last Titan for 2027
The teaser gave players a short but striking glimpse of what’s coming: a snowy Northrend, the familiar Wyrmrest Temple, and something enormous and dark stomping toward it before unleashing a massive laser blast. That’s genuinely all Blizzard was willing to show for now, but for long-time WoW players, seeing Northrend back on the table is enough to get pulses racing.

Eclipse Sets Up the Next Chapter
Most of World of Warcraft‘s stage time at BlizzCon wasn’t actually about The Last Titan at all. It went to Midnight‘s final major patch, Eclipse (patch 12.2), where void harbinger Xal’atath’s planet-soul-eating schemes finally reach their climax and players get to confront her directly.
A cinematic shown during the ceremony depicted Xal’atath ripping open the doors to Azeroth’s World Soul and sending her void armies pouring through. According to the primary reveal, the final chapter of Eclipse will lead into a revelation designed to cue up a climax to 20 years of World of Warcraft – which, for a game that’s been running since 2004, is a pretty massive statement of intent.
Blizzard’s had a busy year on the announcement front generally – worth keeping an eye on how that filters into other corners of the Warcraft universe, including the recent chatter around Nexon’s reported interest in the StarCraft IP.
More Details Are Planned for Early 2027
Game director Ion Hazzikostas apologised for not being able to show more of The Last Titan during the ceremony, but confirmed players will see more of the expansion early next year, once Eclipse has resolved. Beyond the 2027 release year and that fleeting teaser footage, Blizzard hasn’t locked in a launch month, platforms, zones, or pricing.
For now, all eyes are on Eclipse to see how Xal’atath’s story wraps up before Blizzard pulls back the curtain properly on what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest chapters in the game’s history.
