It’s been reported the Great Khural of Mongolia has issued a vote for legislative changes that will ban all forms of gambling in the country.
Mongolia Bans All Gambling, Including Paid Predictions, Online and Sports Betting
The announcement came via the Great Khural’s press service that Mongolian regulators have inspected and approved changes to their Law on Licensing in March – which will now halt both retail and online betting on gambling sites.
The state news agency of Mongolia also revealed that predictions will also be prohibited – plus residents in the country will also be barred from using payment accounts, virtual assets, communication networks, electronic money and ID’s for gambling, betting or predictions.
Anyone found doing any form of gambling or predictions will be considered to be breaking the law and Mongolia criminal code, which could result in fines issues, restrictions on travel, community service and even prison.
Online and In-Person Casinos Illegal In Mongolia
Mongolia sports betting has been legal for a while – including lotteries – but online and in-person casinos are illegal in the country. But all areas of betting are now being banned and ring-fenced in the same way.
In March 2025 the Mongolian government suggested they would support a tighter regulated sports betting license – but continue to have a wider ban on other forms of gambling.
This also includes a ban on gambling related adverts, on the street, in the media or on social platforms.
These new Mongolian betting bans run side-by-side new Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav arriving in power. With the new leader having backed his dedication to tackle financial crime and money laundering that is often linked to the gambling industries all over the world.
Gambling Scene In Asia
Thailand have reportedly been looking to open casinos in order to help with their tourism industry. While the UAE has launched a gambling regulator.
The South Korean esports industry is also expected to review their betting regulations.
But with Mongolia banning betting, this could potentially pave the way for other countries on the brink. Like India, who have recently been calling for betting restrictions – with their eighth largest state Karnataka also implementing a betting ban.
The predictions ban in Mongolia has led to some questions – with many wondering if these are really betting or a form of gambling.
But it’s a growing area – especially in the US – but some regions in Europa and Asia have already banned predictions – like Belgium and Singapore.
It seems Mongolia is following in their footsteps, with predictions.
