Elden Ring Nightreign Is Finally Fixing Its Biggest Problem

If there was one major problem with Elden Ring Nightreign’s release, it’s the lack of a duos mode.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Biggest Flaw

Elden Ring Nightreign launched with a singles and a trios mode. That’s right: you could explore Elden Ring’s various worlds in a new battle-royale format either by yourself or with two other friends, but not as a duo.

This, understandably, was a questionable exclusion.

Since then, Nightreign has received various patches to balance its solo mode and fix bugs, amongst other issues.

Now, on July 30, Elden Ring Nightreign is getting a duos mode. Let’s discuss.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Duos Mode

According to a reveal trailer from the Elden Ring X account, duos is the first time you’ll be able to enjoy the game with just one other friend.

Just like in the main game, the two of you will cross the Lands Between with pre-made characters with their unique abilities, taking down bosses and gathering Relics.

Over time, a ring will close around the map, forcing you toward the center and the session’s final boss.

Since the game has roguelike elements, the bosses will vary each time, as will the Relics you acquire. These variations keep things fun and ensure each round stands out from the last.

Of course, the game’s biggest issue is that you need two or more friends online at the same time to play, lest you go into such a challenging experience with a random or two. It’s often a shame when you and a friend can’t enjoy a game together and instead have to invite a random third. It’s awkward for both parties, and a lack of communication likely exacerbates the situation.

This is why the highly-demanded duos mode is such a nice surprise. Even if it’s coming a few months after the game’s launch.

Now, you and a buddy can jump in whenever while avoiding the awkwardness of a random third player. With so many games out nowadays, and players being busier than ever, it’s challenging to find the time for three people to get online all at once. Asking two people to make the time is much more feasible.

Patch 1.02 Brings More Changes

While details are sparse, the official post notes that 1.02 will bring additional quality-of-life user interface changes alongside more Relics filtering options, which would be great for those of us who have been playing the game for quite a while.

Either way, this change will surely bring back quite a few players who have abandoned the game due to such frustrating problems, much like how bringing Halo Infinite to other platforms will inject new life into the near-dormant franchise.
