Rematch Hit 5 Million Players, Now It’s Fixing the Game’s Biggest Issues

Rematch, the popular soccer (football) game developed by Sifu creators Sloclap, has just released a new set of patch notes and fixes.

Better Rematch Performance Abound

If you’ve been playing Rematch since its launch on June 19, you’ve likely experienced its… less than stellar… network performance.

The ball would constantly lag between players, and goals would look like they’re going in, only to appear in the goalie’s hand a whole second later.

Some of these issues have been improved, but today’s patch brings far better changes.

The standout note is surely Rematch’s better hit detection, reading:

“Fixed an issue where the ball would be deflected instead of being caught by the goalkeeper in certain situations: the ball speed was not correctly evaluated to decide whether to catch or deflect.”

Now, goalies will catch the ball when they’re supposed to, or deflect it if needed. This was a problem for goalies, as sometimes you’d be prepared to catch the ball but your character would deflect it instead, or vice versa.

Rematch is an intense game where every second matters. You’re often thinking three steps ahead, so issues like this could throw off your entire game.

Other Rematch Fixes

Other Rematch fixes include gamepad remapping: a key feature in most modern games nowadays. The ability to remap one’s controls goes a long way in terms of accessibility, and having it here will increase player appeal, no doubt.

Otherwise, the game has received some animation overhauls, including new tap animations alongside polish for existing ones such as dives, pushballs, and volley shoots.

The game is also receiving improvements, including better camera placements during goal replays, easier body blocking, skippable end-match screens, and numerous smaller fixes.

The Future of Rematch

Rematch hit 5 million players in its first month, and the studio claims more fixes are inbound to support that playerbase.

Its most demanded feature, crossplay, will be available in September at the latest alongside the official release of Season 1. We’ll also receive player reporting tools, 3v3 and 4v4 ranked modes, and improvements for mouse and keyboard controls.

Clearly, the studio has been listening to its playerbase. Sloclap is producing fixes as quickly as possible, and players will hopefully continue to support the game as a result.

You can download Rematch on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation for $29.99. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass. Perhaps a Switch 2 version is also on the way?
