In a pre-Summer Game Fest Twitch livestream designed to hype up the incoming show, host and organiser Geoff Keighley has revealed more about what’s planned. In the course of discussing viewer expectations, he’s ruled out appearances for some fan-favourite games, while also confirming this year’s show will be “a little bit quieter in terms of crazy new announcements and shocking surprises.”
Given the last two years has been defined by waves of games industry layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations, that’s not entirely surprising. It’s very possible the Summer Game Fest lineup has been negatively impacted by these moves, with games set for the showcase now lying dormant, and talent out of work.
As Keighley revealed in his Twitch livestream, the focus on this year’s Summer Game Fest will be on already-announced projects, and “unexpected things” from smaller teams and independent studios, as well as “some big blockbuster games and franchises.” There is likely to be some surprises, but Keighley seems keen to temper expectations for the show.

Rather than shocking surprises, there will be a range of updates for existing games, with things like release date drops, new trailers, and new gameplay footage more likely. Per Keighley, many of the games featured will be “things that are coming out later this year.”
Everything that won’t be at Summer Game Fest 2024
Elsewhere in his recent Twitch livestream, Keighley also dived into a few games that won’t appear at Summer Game Fest 2024. These included Kingdom Hearts 4, which has not received a major update since its reveal in 2022.
GTA 6 also won’t appear during Summer Game Fest, as Rockstar Games isn’t ready for a new trailer just yet. To be fair, we only saw the game’s first trailer a few months ago – so this is unsurprising. We’re unlikely to hear more about this game until much later in 2024.
The Wolf Among Us 2 is another notable absence. This game was originally set to launch in 2023, but was pushed back to 2024. Developers Telltale Games and Deck Nine have both suffered major layoffs this year, and the status of TWAU2 is currently very unclear. We’d love to see more from this game soon, but it’s not looking good right now.
Ken Levine’s Judas was also mentioned as a no-show, alongside a random assortment of other titles.
Every game confirmed for Summer Game Fest 2024
While Keighley spent much of his livestream denying the appearance of suggested games, he did confirm the following titles will appear on the show:
- Palworld
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Metaphor: Refantazio
- Batman: Arkham VR
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO
As for the rest, we’ll just have to tune in for Summer Game Fest. The show will be livestreamed on 7 June 2024, depending on your local timezone.
