Scopely a annoncé un nouveau nom pour l’ancienne équipe de Niantic à l’origine de Pokémon GO<\/strong>, Pikmin Bloom<\/strong> et Monster Hunter Now<\/strong>. Celle-ci opérera désormais sous le nom de Scopely Explore<\/strong>.<\/p>

Cette décision fait suite au rachat, par Scopely, de l’activité jeux vidéo de Niantic pour 3,5 milliards de dollars<\/strong>, une acquisition finalisée en mai 2025 qui a permis à l’éditeur d’intégrer plusieurs des plus grands jeux en réalité augmentée et géolocalisés de Niantic à son catalogue. Outre Pokémon GO<\/strong>, Pikmin Bloom<\/strong> et Monster Hunter Now<\/strong>, l’opération comprenait également des applications et services complémentaires tels que Campfire<\/strong> et Wayfarer<\/strong>.<\/p>

Dans un nouvel article publié sur son blog, Scopely explique que ce nouveau nom reflète la « mission » qui guide cette équipe depuis ses débuts : faire de l’exploration le cœur de ses jeux et des communautés qui les animent. Selon l’entreprise, Scopely Explore<\/strong> rassemble des développeurs qui conçoivent des expériences encourageant les joueurs à découvrir de nouveaux lieux, à rencontrer d’autres personnes et à explorer le monde sous un angle différent.<\/p>

Scopely insiste toutefois sur un point important : Scopely Explore<\/strong> n’est ni une entreprise indépendante ni une filiale. Il s’agit simplement d’une équipe interne à Scopely, dont les jeux et les produits continuent d’être développés et édités par le groupe.<\/p>

Depuis le succès phénoménal de Pokémon GO<\/strong> en 2016, le nom Niantic<\/strong> est devenu une référence dans l’univers des jeux mobiles. Pour de nombreux joueurs, il est indissociable du concept consistant à parcourir le monde réel pour jouer, qu’il s’agisse de capturer des Pokémon, de planter des fleurs avec Pikmin Bloom<\/strong> ou d’affronter des monstres dans Monster Hunter Now<\/strong>.<\/p>

Ces derniers temps, toutefois, l’image de la marque a été écornée par des accusations selon lesquelles les données de cartographie fournies par les utilisateurs de Pokémon GO<\/strong> auraient servi à entraîner des drones militaires via Niantic Spatial<\/strong>, l’ancienne société sœur de Niantic. Même si la réalité s’est révélée bien plus nuancée que ces accusations ne le laissaient entendre, ce changement de nom devrait contribuer à dissiper les confusions qui subsistaient autour de cette affaire.<\/p>

Cette nouvelle identité semble également constituer une étape supplémentaire dans l’intégration des équipes au sein de Scopely, plutôt que le signe d’un changement majeur concernant les jeux eux-mêmes. L’entreprise affirme que Scopely Explore<\/strong> poursuivra sa mission de créer des expériences qui « inspirent les gens à sortir de chez eux, à créer des liens entre eux et à explorer le monde ensemble », tout en faisant pleinement partie de Scopely.<\/p>

Les joueurs devraient commencer à voir le nom Niantic<\/strong> disparaître progressivement des différentes plateformes au cours des prochaines semaines, au profit de Scopely Explore<\/strong>.<\/p>

Pour les joueurs de Pokémon GO<\/strong> en particulier, cette annonce marque une nouvelle étape dans l’ère post-Niantic du jeu. Si Pokémon GO<\/strong> appartient déjà à Scopely depuis plus d’un an, ce changement de nom rend désormais cette transition beaucoup plus visible.<\/p>

Reste à savoir si cette évolution aura un impact concret pour les joueurs. Pour l’heure, Scopely présente cette opération comme un simple changement d’identité visuelle plutôt qu’une remise à zéro, en insistant sur le fait que l’ADN des jeux, fondé sur l’exploration, les interactions sociales et la géolocalisation, restera inchangé sous cette nouvelle bannière.<\/p>
